NEW ORLEANS, LA (December 7, 2010) The students at New Orleans’ Benjamin E. Mays Preparatory School are in for a holiday treat. New Orleans Saints stars Pierre Thomas and Courtney Roby, along with Saints legend and 2011 Hall of Fame semifinalist Willie Roaf, are teaming up with Crocs, Inc. and Feed The Children to ensure that the students and families at Mays Prep have a holiday season that they will never forget.
On Tuesday, December 7th at 1:30 p.m., the Saints superstars and All Pro Sports & Entertainment, Inc. clients will be visiting the students at Mays Prep and speaking with them about the importance of education, community involvement, and health and fitness; as well as giving free pairs of Crocs™ shoes to approximately 250 students, provided by Crocs Cares, the philanthropic a. Feed The Children will also be supplying approximately 400 students and their families at Mays Prep and their partner school, Carver Elementary School, with food and personal hygiene essentials.
Mays Prep is a Hurricane Katrina relief school in its second year serving New Orleans’ 9th Ward Desire community where almost 98 percent of the school’s students live in Section 8 households. “This holiday donation is an opportunity for us to give back to the less fortunate and to a community that has given so much to us. Seeing firsthand the pure joy and excitement of a child when they receive their gifts will be a priceless moment,” said Courtney Roby.
This holiday donation is a rare and rewarding opportunity for these students to learn from and meet elite professional athletes, while also receiving basic necessities from industry leaders like Crocs, Inc. and Feed The Children.
“We appreciate Crocs and the teamwork from the New Orleans Saints that helped make this distribution possible” said Tony Sellars, spokesperson for Feed The Children. “The need is great, especially at this time of year, and we are grateful for the opportunity to provide assistance to these students.”
Willie Roaf played college football at Louisiana Tech, played in the NFL for 13 seasons, was selected to 11 Pro Bowls and is a 2011 Pro Football Hall of Fame candidate.
